You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone: Caregiver University Conference

Caregiving is one of the most meaningful and demanding roles a person can take on.
Whether you’re just beginning your caregiving journey or have been at it for years, the Caregiver University Conference is designed with you in mind. Join us this April for a full day of learning, connection, and community in Hollister, CA.
“I think that there’s such a sense of loneliness and isolation with being a caregiver. It’s such a sacred responsibility, but also a very deeply difficult one at times. There are a lot of losses and a lot of demands on you — physically, emotionally, and mentally. Coming to these events is a way to acknowledge those deep feelings and share them with a group. I feel like it is a way to celebrate the highs and lows of being a caregiver.”
— Jessica Mattila, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Supervisor, Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center
What to Expect
The conference is a full day packed with practical tools, meaningful conversation, and genuine support on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. Registration opens at 9:00 AM, and the program runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The day kicks off with a keynote address from Joy Smith, RN, MSN, of Papillon Center for Loss & Transition and Coastal Kids Home Care. An oncology and palliative medicine nurse educator at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and a Certified Grief Counselor, Joy brings years of experience working with patients and families, as well as facilitating grief support groups. Her wisdom and compassionate approach to caregiving and transitions will set an inspiring and grounding tone for everything that follows.
Following the keynote, attendees can choose from breakout sessions tailored to their individual interests and needs, including:
Advance Healthcare Planning
Caregiver Burnout
All Levels Flow Yoga, led by Randee Schwartz — read why it’s worth getting up early this Saturday
Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided throughout the day, with vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly options available to accommodate everyone’s dietary needs.
“Thank you, Del Mar. I am uplifted by this conference after eight years of caring for my husband with Alzheimer’s.”
“It was stellar! It’s been a long time since I felt seen, compassion, and understanding.”

“It’s always a big production to put on these events, but it is always worth it because caregivers get to come and be with one another. There’s a sense of community. They get to connect with their family consultants. They get a sense of not feeling alone — not feeling isolated — which is such a large issue that really confronts most caregivers. My hope is that they leave here with education, or a new friend, or just feeling cared for today.”
